Wirral Borough Council employed Blakedown Sport & Play to construct a new build 88.5m x 39m sand-filled multi-use games area at Oldershaw School (now Oldershaw Academy) to be used for school and community football and tennis. The MUGA is lined for four pitches and four courts respectively and was surfaced with Edel's PP24mm sports turf.
The facility was completed with 4.9m high weldmesh fencing (extended from the usual 3m because the games area lies adjacent to a public car-park), a floodlighting system, access gates for wheelchair access, and eight free-standing portable football goals.
The project also included the installation of two artificial turf cricket wickets and bowler run-ups laid onto an engineered tarmac base for stability and true ball-bounce. The wickets were affixed with batting cages and roof netting.
In addition to the sports facilities, Blakedown upgraded the existing tarmac car park and access roads, installed a 1.8m high metal palisade security perimeter fencing to the site boundary and carried out associated landscaping.
