Essex County Council employed Blakedown Sport & Play to construct new football pitches as part of the Roscommon Way Extension Scheme: a large regeneration project on Canvey Island.
Construction of the pitches involved a 'cut and fill' earth moving operation, ground remodelling of approximately 2000m3 of soil plus levelling, and installation of a new drainage swale. 8,500m2 of formed soil was then seeded to produce the football pitches, which were lined to meet Sport England Youth Football specification.
The pitches are situated at the Waterside Farm Sports Centre. Blakedown completed the project with new twin-bar perimeter fencing, post-and-rail spectator fencing, installation of a new cricket square, installation of new storage facilities, and a relocated changing room.
Included in the contract, Blakedown also constructed a full-size 3G artificial turf training pitch for the club, complete with sports fencing and floodlighting.
Since the development, Blakedown have also installed a full-size 3G artificial turf football pitch to add to the facilities on offer at the Waterside Farm Sports Centre.
